Gandalf and Pippin have reached the highest circle of Minas Tirith, and are admitted without question. Yes, word has spread already that they’ve arrived. It’s like the most gossipy city ever.
The court inside is green, with a fountain, and a dead tree in the center of it. It’s dead. Like, SO dead. That tree. In the middle. Is dead.
Passing into the hall within the Tower of Ecthelion, Gandalf begins to tell Pippin what not to say in front of Denethor. Basically, Pippin shouldn’t say anything. Nothing about Frodo. Nothing about Aragorn. Watch your tongue, now.
Denethor is a proud ruler. So much so that he doesn’t want to know about anything that might take him down. Does that make sense? Frodo’s quest will greatly affect his rule, whether or not he succeeds. Aragorn’s arrival will almost certainly end Denethor’s stewardship. What would he be then, just another nobody in the streets of Minas Tirith? I would think not entirely, but the outcome still wouldn’t be as nice as being the ruler of the greatest city in the free world.
How long will it take for Pippin to screw everything up? My money’s on within 3 pages. Stay tuned.
