Everything on this page is somewhat misleading. Bridge? White. Flowers? White. Road? Glowing. Sounds good, right?
Not so fast my friend. The bridge spans an eerily quiet river, making its way to the gates of Minas Morgul. Those flowers smell like death. And, well…I have nothing to say about the glowing road. That’s just weird.
But, there they are. Frodo, Sam, and Gollum stand only across the bridge from the dead city. A sudden urge lurches Frodo forward. He nearly stumbles right across, though Sam and Gollum both think to grab him in time. Frodo comes back to his senses, realizing, unsurprisingly, that the ring wants to go to the city. Sam leads him back, and Gollum points out a break in the wall along the road. This path leads up over the flats beyond.
Today’s Gollum Meter: 81 – “Thank you. Saving Frodo from himself is always a good thing.”
Yes, the ring’s will is strong. Never before has it been so clear. Frodo can literally see the ring pulling at its chain, wanting to pull him with it. However, only so much strength can be found in such a small thing. Frodo has the mental strength of something much greater, and he can overcome this terrible willpower. How much longer can he do it alone?
At least for once, Sam and Gollum agree on something. That’s like watching Paula Deen and Gandhi pick out dinner together.
But hey! There’s a secret little path here! That’s actually a little too convenient. Oh well.
No one dies today.
“Of that deadly gleam and of the dark eyeholes Frodo and…”
