If we’re comparing to the movies, this has to be one of the most dutifully accurate pages yet. Circle up!
Aragorn continues speaking about the history of the Rohirrim for a bit, and then Legolas announces that they are almost upon them. Sitting to the side, the three hunters watch the horsemen stream by. No one stops. Aragorn steps out behind them and calls, which brings them around right quick. Before you know it, the three find themselves in the middle of a circle of spears, just like that picture right above!
-Eorl the Young: The founding father of Rohan. He led riders south from the lands near Dale, settling in the land now known as Rohan.
So…how did Rohan get founded? This page hints at their origins, coming from the north. Aragorn likens them more to the men of Dale, or the giants descended from Beorn, which makes some sense. They’re a more rustic folk than the men of Gondor, which is similar to the citizens of these other locales.
Oddly enough, through some research, I learned that Eorl brought these men south in hopes of aiding Gondor against southern raiders. So that’s why Rohan always feels like the “other” kingdom of men: it is. It wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for Gondor in the first place.
But look at all these new friends! Even if we’re hostile for the moment, we’ll all be chums before you know it. And then we can swap stories, and we’ll hear all about new people. I’m feeling a big swath of First Mentions coming up. That, and plot movement. We’re finally reaching the end of the Forrest Gump part. I’m going to let a feather fly into the sky any day now.
Words My Computer Didn’t Like:
As a completely unrelated side note, one of these days Michigan is going to wake up and realize that Denard Robinson just isn’t that great of a quaterback. BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY…sadly for them.
“A thicket of spears were pointed towards the strangers; and some of the horsemen…”
