What’s that? I believe we’re headed into Rohan. That means new characters and stuff! How exciting.
In a completely unrelated note, Karl Urban (Éomer) is playing Judge Dredd in the new movie.
We don’t meet anyone new today, though. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli have been running long into the night, with no sign so far of the orcs. They’ve climbed one mountain ridge, and are headed towards another, while wondering if they’re even headed the right way. If those orcs are taking the hobbits to Isengard…which route will they have chosen?
They head northwards, climbing the second ridge. As the sun rises, they notice that some boulders aren’t boulders at all: they’re dead orcs.
I’m totally okay with that. But who killed them? I’m sure it has nothing to do with the chapter title.
Strangely enough, it seems that these hills remain a part of the Emyn Muil, which I had always thought were confined to the eastern side of Anduin. Apparently not. I guess what exists is a run of hills from west to east out of the Misty Mountains. These ridges are a part of that line, as are Amons Hen and Lhaw, not to mention Tol Brandir. What I normally think of as the Emyn Muil are a continuation of the line to the east of the river.
And there are lots of boulders. Some of those boulders are dead orcs. Some camouflage!
“They had been hewn with many…”
